When I was looking at colleges, I did not have a complete picture of what I wanted. There are tons of cool minerals, rocks, and fossils to look at! It’s a really great place to stop by between classes, or to go see with friends. UMass hidden gem: Rausch Mineral Gallery in the Morrill Science Center is definitely a hidden gem on campus (pun intended). Major: Biomedical Engineering Minor: MathĪctivities and Involvement: Commonwealth Honors College, Club Water Polo, Alpha Phi Omega (Service Fraternity), Society of Women Engineers, Biomedical Engineering Society, Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant UMass is a game-changer, and I cannot imagine myself anywhere else. I entered UMass an exploratory student worried about never finding a major in the vastness of the school… and I can say with great confidence that it is because of such vastness that I have not only found a major, but a passion for what I study! Due to the course and major flexibility, the immense amount of student resources, and the extensive opportunities for student engagement, I found a home (super far) away from home. Now, game nights reign supreme! The atmosphere (and ice cream) in Mullins can’t be beat and usually neither can we!Īs someone with a hometown across the country from Amherst, the decision to come to UMass was not an easy one. Major: Journalism Minors: Political Science, Sustainable Community DevelopmentĪctivities and Involvement: The Massachusetts Daily Collegian, Women's Club Volleyball Teamįavorite UMass Tradition/Event: Before I came to UMass, I had never been to a hockey game. The fields are open to students all year long, and aspiring band members are invited to any rehearsal they want to observe, so I sincerely hope that every visitor takes advantage of these amazing views. Even when cold weather makes your instrument freeze to your lips, or rain makes the grass into a slip-and-slide, the stunning sunsets will always melt your woes and warm your soul. All semester long, you are guaranteed to witness the most stunning sunsets over the fields during every single rehearsal. UMass Hidden Gem: My favorite UMass hidden gem is not so much hidden as it is overlooked: the marching band practice fields are where I spend most of my fall semesters, and I couldn’t love them any more. I could go on and on about how much I love UMass, so if you have any questions, I would love to talk to you!ĭouble Major: Economics and Political Science Minors: Math and FrenchĪctivities and Involvement: Student-Assistant Coordinator of Co-Curricular Events and Programs for the Honors College, Honors College Student Advisory Board, Undergraduate Research Assistant in the Department of Resource Economics, UMass Minuteman Marching Band, UMass Pep Band (Hoop and Ice Band) I switched majors three times in just one semester, and UMass made that process seamless and easy, allowing me to explore my interests and learn from other perspectives. There are so many resources available to me as a student, and every faculty member I have come across is supportive and wants me to succeed. Here I am able to create my own small-school feel while also being part of a larger community at a world-class university. I chose UMass Amherst because it is the best of both worlds.

The gluten free chocolate chip cookies are the best cookie ever. Also, it is awesome to be able to reassure people that even with a food allergy or dietary restriction they will be more than happy here at UMass. I love seeing prospective students get excited about trying our #1 dining, and I like to see how shocked they are when I tell them that we have 52 dining locations across campus (they usually only guess about 7 or 8). What is your favorite tour stop?: My favorite tour stop is the Dining stop in front of the Worcester Dining Commons. Double Major: Kinesiology and Public Health (Pre-Medical)Īctivities and Involvement: UMass CHAARG, Pre-Medical Society, Behavioral Medicine Lab, Kinesiology Club, Public Health Club
